INNOCEAN (Global CEO Jung A Kim) announced today that it has unveiled ‘Cinema by Brand,’ a new content platform, at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The platform connects brands with filmmakers from around the world, and Hanwha Group is its first partner.
INNOCEAN presented the vision and first project of Cinema by Brand at a special session of the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), held at BEXCO Exhibition Center 2 in Busan as part of the 31st BIFF. INNOCEAN Global CEO Jung A Kim, Hanwha Communication Committee Executive Vice President Jeeyoung Park, and ACFM Chair Ellen Y.D. Kim took the stage together to explain why the platform was launched and to share their outlook on the future of the content and IP business.
“When brands, creators, and audiences connect through film, creators get new opportunities, and audiences get a brand experience they actually want to seek out and enjoy,” said INNOCEAN Global CEO Kim. “We saw this as the area where INNOCEAN’s experience in content production and its creative strengths could shine the most.”
Cinema by Brand is a new platform, jointly planned by INNOCEAN and ACFM, Asia’s largest content market, that develops and produces films. Rather than simply placing a brand in a film, the idea is to bring a brand’s philosophy and the core of what it does to life through each director’s unique vision and cinematic storytelling.
Along with the introduction of the platform, the session featured an in-depth discussion on why it was created, where branded content stands today and where it should go next, and what the platform hopes to achieve.
Hanwha Group is the first brand to join the platform, with Space Solar Power as the central theme of its project. Guided by the idea of sharing hope for a sustainable future for humanity through space solar power, the films will be made with the directors’ creative freedom and cinematic quality as the top priorities.
“First and foremost, we want the films to entertain and move audiences on their own. Beyond that, we hope viewers will connect with Hanwha’s vision for space solar power technology and a sustainable tomorrow,” said Jeeyoung Park, Executive Vice President of the Hanwha Communication Committee, who co-presented at the session. “We look forward to creating a great example of how companies and creators can expand into each other’s worlds and keep telling new stories together.”
After a rigorous review by experts from INNOCEAN, ACFM, the Producers Guild of Korea (PGK), and other fields, three directors were selected: two from Korea and one from overseas. Director Edmund Yeo impressed with a project that turns the massive technology of space solar power into something audiences can feel and reflect on. Director Euijeong Hong offered a vision never before seen in space films, using a signature storytelling style that weaves brand values into human time and emotion. Director Jinho Lee drew attention with a fresh concept, presenting outer space created with AI.
The three directors’ selected projects were also revealed for the first time at the session. “We looked at each project’s understanding of the brand, the strength of its screenplay, and its creativity,” the judging panel said. “In particular, we focused on whether it delivered the brand message convincingly through the language of film, and whether it had an engaging story and a clear, positive tone.” The finished films are scheduled to be released to audiences in Korea and around the world in 2027.
